Noble Gas Mass Spectrometry in Earth and Planetary Sciences

Abstract: Noble gases are very rare elements in most relevant samples geochemistry and cosmochemistry. may perhaps also look rather boring to chemists, as they do not form any stable compounds. However, it is just their rarity chemical inertness which makes noble versatile a wide range of fields, such oceanography, climatology, environmental sciences, meteorite studies, rock dating, early solar system Earth history, many others. Mass spectrometry by far the main analytical tool gas cosmochemistry, partly because often allows researchers recognize same sample different "components" origin hence isotopic composition. This contribution attempts illustrate applications mass sciences with selected examples.
